Long Description

I have a model of the Flying Cloud that I built from scratch that has remained in an almost completed state for about 20 years. At least I finished the models in this scene in a shorter time.

I wanted to make a computerized version of a wrecked Spanish galleon. I looked on the Web for sunken Spanish galleons.

I didn't realize until recently how famous the Atocha was. I recently saw a television special about the treasure found on the ship.

The model is a modified version of a Spanish galleon from the 1926 book Ship Model Making by E.Armitage McCann.

The Elsie that is visible through the window is a model of a fishing schooner that was used in races. The design came from The History from American Sailing Ships by Howard I. Chapelle (1935).

The interior of the museum is an attempt to make it appear similar to the interior of a ship. I added reflection to the ceiling after seeing a reflective ceiling in a book that I have.

Making Of

The major portion of the image is composed of figures made with CSG. The meshes for the hull of the ships and the sails of the Elsie were created using excel spread sheets to create the smooth triangle meshes. It took quite a long time to get the spread sheet working right. I originally set up the spreadsheet to make mountains, but it can be used for any object.
